BlackBerry has just announced that it has bought French start-up Scroon to accelerate the transformation of BBM, its instant messaging platform that has 80 million active users per month, into a 100% mobile social network. The acquisition had been quietly finalized last May. The amount of the transaction was not disclosed.
Scroon offers brands and agencies a SMMS (Social Media Management System) that allows them to manage conversations on social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Google+… (Read the article: “Scroon launches a community management solution “, dated 11/05/11). The start-up’s client portfolio includes brands such as Louis Vuitton, Orange Group, Nespresso, Desigual, Warner Bros…. Scroon was founded in 2006 by Alexandre Mars, who is also in charge of the mobile business at Publicis.
