In the Tiobe list of the most popular languages, C# is the most popular in November. As well as Transact-SQL and Visual Basic.Net.
Microsoft is the big winner of the November Tiobe ranking. Among the six languages gaining in popularity over a year in the Top 20, three of them are technologies from the Redmond group: C# which gains a place compared to the October ranking (and records an index up 0.43 points over a year), Transact-SQL (+2.05 points) and Visual Basic.NET (+1.20 point).
“It may be a coincidence, but this trend comes as Windows Mobile gains market share against Android and iOS smartphone penetration rates,” Tiobe says in its commentary. Another big winner: JavaSrcipt, whose popularity index is up as in October by more than 0.75 points over one year (read the article on the previous edition onranking).
Methodology : the Tiobe ranking is based on consultation data from the most used search engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo!, Wikipedia and YouTube). It is therefore not indicative of the intrinsic quality of the languages or their penetration rates.
