“When it doesn’t take off, resolve to pivot”

“Should I stay or should I go?” It was with the famous song by The Clash that Stéphanie Pelaprat illustrated Restopolitan ‘s beginnings: “should I pivot or should I go?” She herself decided to persevere, even though the start-up – initially a restaurant booking platform – was failing to take off and was reaching the end of its cash flow. “I hired better sales people, added new features… Nothing to do, it wasn’t taking off.” The pivot that saved Restopolitan was dreamed up in 48 hours, during a team brainstorm. “When it doesn’t work, you have to be transparent with your employees and stay together.” The start-up eventually launched a €9.99-a-month card that offers a meal for every meal purchased in a network of partner restaurants. A winning bet.
